Press release:

Consonni Radziszewski is delighted to present a dialogue between the works  of Enzo Cucchi (1949, Morro d’Alba) and Aleksandra Waliszewska (1976, Warsaw).

AW: What are your favorite books?

EC: All technical manuals from Hoepli, and most of all the electrical engineering one.

EC: What is your weight? In a physical and broad sense.

AW: I stopped weighing myself.

Enzo Cucchi (1949, Morro d’Alba) lives and works in Rome. A leading figure of the Transavanguardia — the movement theorized by Achille Bonito Oliva that reintroduced figuration in reaction to Minimal and Conceptual art — Cucchi has developed a distinctive painterly and sculptural language since the late 1970s. His work has been widely exhibited internationally, including major solo presentations at the Stedelijk Museum, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Centre Pompidou, and MAXXI.

Aleksandra Waliszewska (1976, Warsaw) lives and works in Warsaw. Her paintings are richly coded with references to Poland’s industrial landscapes, its ancient forests and swamps, and its mythological tradition, anchoring her work in Slavic cultural heritage. Waliszewska’s allegorical portrayals offer an examination of the human condition and confront primal emotions such as fear, anxiety, and desire. A major retrospective of her works took place at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (2022) and the M.K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, Kaunas in Lithuania (2023). Aleksandra Waliszewska’s work is present in numerous public institutions, including the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, Athens, Greece; the National Museum, Gdańsk, Poland; the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Poland; and The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, Greece.
